SMA
Spectrum Management Authority Jamaica (SMA)

SMA is Jamaica’s wireless communication certification. All wireless communication devices used in Jamaica, maritime mobile service, air mobile service, and amateur radio services within Jamaica must obtain type approval from the SMA (Jamaican telecommunications equipment approval body). A report from an accredited test laboratory issued according to international standards is required.

Wireless standards and EMC/Safety standards are applied as applicable standards, and FCC, ANSI, ETSI, and ITU are recognized, and EMC/Safety must be satisfied as international standards. After reviewing the submitted reports and documents in accordance with FCC, ANSI, ETSI, ITU standards to SMA, an approval letter will be issued, and a local test is unnecessary. An application form, power of attorney, device specification, user manual, certificate of origin, Safety/EMC test report, FCC certificate, etc. documents must be submitted, and the type approval period is within 15 days of receipt and the cost is US$350 per model.

BSJ
The Bureau of Standards Jamaica (BSJ)

BSJ is Jamaica's energy certification scheme specifically for refrigerators and freezers. Importers willing to sell refrigerators and freezers in Jamaica must submit samples to BSJ. Refrigerators and freezers are tested according to the mandatory Jamaican Standards Specification for Testing of energy performance of household refrigerators and freezers (JS178:1990 standard).
Based on the test results, BSJ issues a certificate to the importer and must attach the label according to the Jamaican Standards Specification For The labeling of commodities Part 21: Energy labeling of appliances and product, JS 1: Part 21: 1996 standard.
