IRAM
Instituto Argentino de Normalización y Certificación (IRAM - electrical safety)

In order to export and sell electric/electronic items to Argentina, it is compulsory to obtain a Certificate of Conformity (S-mark) from a designated certification body for an Electric/electronic item in accordance to the law 'Resolution 92/1998, essential safety requirements to be followed for the commercialization of low-voltage electrical equipment'.

The certificate must be issued under the name of a local importer in Argentina. Further on, electrical and electronic items designated as regulated items are compulsory to go through the electrical safety and energy efficiency certification system; In the case of electrical safety, three different certification systems are applied depending on the product and the applicant's choice.

1) Safety Mark (S-mark) certification (ISO system No.5): Acquiring certification through product testing and factory inspection. post-market inspection is further required.
2) Type Certification (ISO system No.4): certification acquisition after product testing. Post-market inspection is further required.
3) Lot Certification (ISO system No.7): For imported products, samples are taken for each lot and after testing, a certificate is issued only for the relevant lot.
- Beside gaining the mark certification for designated items among Mark or Type certification, applicants can additionally select other certification they want to go through with their item.

After receiving the certification, regular post-management tests (verification & sample tests) are conducted alternately every 6 months (type certification) and 12 months (mark certification) depending on the applied certification system.

Target Product:
50Vac~1000Vac or below 1500Vdc, low-voltage devices with power consumption of 5KVA or less, installation material below 63A; batteries, lamps, and exercise equipment are not subject to regulation even though it is below 50Vac or less.

IRAM - Energy Efficiency

Four items, air conditioners, refrigerators, washing machines and lamps, are designated items compulsory to undergo the energy efficiency system; these items must be tested at a designated test center in Argentina (overseas reports are not recognized) according to the Argentina IRAM standard - going through a factory inspection before being certified by a certification body.

Further on, certification applicants or an authorized person must be local importers, and even after certification, the certification is maintained through regular factory inspections and sample tests once every year. The certification is performed by a certification body designated by OAA (Organismo Argentino de Acreditación) and approved by DNCI (National Directorate of Domestic Trade).

ENACOM
ENACOM (Ente Nacional de Comunicaciones),

Products that use technologies such as radio frequency, cellular, or satellite require ENACOM type approval and certification to be imported and sold in Argentina. Most of the products require testing in Argentina, and typically 1-3 samples are required depending on the device. Modular and system approval may be possible depending on the characteristics of the equipment. In addition to this, a local representative is required for the ENACOM certification. All products must operate with an IRAM 2074-approved Class I or II plug and IRAM 2073-approved external power supply. Power supplies must operate at 220V 50Hz in Argentina

- Target items :
Bluetooth/Wi-Fi Devices, Local Area Communication Devices, GSM/Cellular Frequency, Analog Communication, Digital, Fax, Modem, Telephone Handsets and Related Equipment, Most Wireless Devices and Terminal Devices Connected to Public Telephone Networks and Other Wired and Wireless Devices
