Products BIS has subjected for compulsory certification must undergo compulsory product certification when exported to India; if products don't meet the standards, products may not be manufactured, stored for sale, imported, sold nor distributed in India.
All overseas applicants must have a liaison office or branch office in India which could comply with all of the responsibilities and obligations of the relevant laws and rules regulated made under those laws for registration. However, the requirement to open an office in India does not apply where India has signed a memorandum of understanding with the relevant country or where the foreign applicant appoints an authorized representative in India declaring an agreement to assume responsibility for representation.
