Mr. Andrew - The presenter of Africa Certification System
We will introduce general information about the Southern and East African Certification System. First, let me tell you about South Africa's certification system. South Africa has three certification bodies related to electrical and electronic products. The certification required is from NRCS, the organization in charge of energy and safety, while communications certification must be issued by ICASA and EMC by SABS. Other neighboring countries only require telecommunications certification in southern Africa, Zambia is certified by ZICTA and Mozambique is known as INCM. East Africa is mainly required to have communication certification and pre-shipment inspection. South Africa has three certification bodies. That means NRCS, ICASA, SABS. The three certification bodies are managed by three central governments.
+ ZAMBIA Certification System: The Zambia Information and Communication Technology Authority(ZICTA) is the official regulator of Zambia communications, broadcasting and postal services sectors
+ MOZAMBIQUE Certification System: The National Communications Institute of Mozambique (INCM) regulates and supervises the communications sector and spectrum management of radio frequencies. The INCM grants licenses to communication services and monitors compliance with the legislation. They also promote the development of efficient media technology.
+ KENYA Certification System: The Kenyan Bureau of Standards (KEBS) has introduced the Pre-Export Verification of Conformity (PVoC) to Standards Program to ensure the quality of products, which must also meet health, safety and environmental standards for Kenyans.
+ TANZANIA Certification System: Tanzania Bureau of Standards (TBS) implemented a new product conformity assessment programme for the control of certain categories of imported goods. Goods covered under the programme imported into Tanzania require a Certificate of Conformity (CoC).
+ ETHIOPIA Certification System: Ethiopia PVoC certification-MOTI(The Ministry of Trade and Industry), The ministry of trade and industry (MOTI) has been implementing a conformity assessment programme to control the quality of imported Stand-alone Solar (SaS) products. the SaS products that are imported into Ethiopia and covered under this programme require a Certificate of Conformity (COC). The Government of Ethiopia will appoint selected ‘PVoC Agents’ to conduct Pre-Export Verification of Conformity (PVoC) assessments according to the required standards.
+ UGANDA Certification System: Uganda PVoC certification-UNBS(Uganda National Bureau of Standard). The objective of PVoC is to minimize the risk of unsafe and substandard goods entering Ugandan and protect consumers against dangerous, shoddy, and substandard imported products.
