All communication, industrial and medical devices to be sold in Hong Kong must meet the minimum requirement from Hong Kong communication Equipment Evaluation and Certification scheme relating to specification for public network connectivity, anti-interference and electrical safety. HKTEC is divided by two types of certification system, VCS (voluntary certification system) and CCS (compulsory certification system).
MEELS (Mandatory Energy Efficiency Labeling Scheme) is Hong Kong's Labeling regulation introduced by the Product Energy Signage Regulations (Article 598) from May 2008. In order for manufacturers or importers to supply products to Hong Kong, they must attach the Energy Label. MEELS is currently regulating five types of products - air conditioning appliances, compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs), washing machines and dehumidifiers.
